August - WOMEN'S PLAYER OF THE MONTH
Low wins Squash Player’s Player of the Month award
Malaysian
Low Wee Wern has been named Squash Player’s Women’s Player of the Month
for the first time after an outstanding July on her return to squash
following 20 months out through injury.
The 28-year-old former world no.5 began the month by finishing runner-up
in the Malaysian National Championship and then followed that
achievement by winning back-to-back PSA Tour titles as a qualifier – at
the $15,000 Malaysian Open and the $10,000 Tasmanian Open.
“The Malaysian Open isn’t as prestigious as it used to be in the past,
where there were top 10 players playing in it, but it surely is an
achievement to be remembered,” she said.
“It is always an honour playing in my home country with the support and
even though this edition was not as big as before my injury, the support
and fans were still there.
“Being unable to compete for 20 months is no joke and to get through all
the way from qualifying to win two back-to-back titles is something.
“This will go down as one of my most memorable achievements, after
enduring three knee surgeries and starting all over from scratch,
learning to walk again to getting back on court and winning titles.”
