August - MEN'S PLAYER OF THE MONTH

Al-Tamimi wins Squash Player’s Player of the Month award

Abdulla Al-Tamimi has become the first Qatari to win Squash Player’s Player of the Month after his and his country’s biggest PSA Tour win.

The 23-year-old world no.33 defeated the top two seeds – Hong Kong duo Leo Au and Yip Tsz Fung – on the way to landing the $35,000 Malaysian Open in Kuala Lumpur in July.

“It’s a huge win for me – my biggest for sure,” said the third-seeded Al-Tamimi, Qatar’s only professional player.

“It means a lot for Qatar squash, I guess, as the first Qatari to win such a big PSA event and it’s going to hopefully motivate all the other Qataris to do well.
“I should be in the top 30 next month, which I’m really happy about after only the first PSA event of the season.”

Al-Tamimi, who trains at the Aspire Academy in Doha and with former world champion Rodney Martin in New York, is now targeting success in the Asian Games in Indonesia from August 18 to September 2.
