July - WOMEN'S PLAYER OF THE MONTH

Au wins Squash Player’s Player of the Month award

Annie Au is Squash Player’s Women’s Player of the Month for the first time, after winning her fourth successive Hong Kong national title and seventh in all in June.

The 29-year-old top seed did not drop a game all tournament, although she was helped in the final when second seed Joey Chan retired at 2/0, 4-0 down.

Au insisted that the victory meant as much to her as it did in 2009, when she first won the event.

“I think every year the national [championship] is a challenge for me to [successfully] defend the title and I am very glad that this year I did it,” said the world no.11.

“Of course, there is more and more pressure for me to win, as people are looking at you as a target. That's different from the first few times.”

Au’s season is now over, although she cannot completely relax, as she has the Asian Games in August in Indonesia to look forward to.

“That's why in summer I mainly focus on preparing for it and hopefully I can get some good results,” she said.
