June - WOMEN'S PLAYER OF THE MONTH
El Sherbini wins Squash Player’s Player of the Month
award
Egyptian
Nour El Sherbini is Squash Player’s Women’s Player of the Month once
again after winning her second British Open title in May.
The 22-year-old world no.1 made it two titles from three Hull finals by
defeating compatriot El Welily 3/0 to avenge her loss to the world no.2
in the El Gouna decider in April.
El Sherbini, the first female Egyptian to win the British Open in 2016,
played superbly to record an 11-6, 11-9, 14-12 triumph over her
29-year-old opponent in 47 minutes and win her 16th PSA Tour title.
“The British Open is the biggest tournament on tour and it was an honour
to win it once. Now I have two, I’m really proud," El Sherbini said.
"We always have very tough battles; it’s never an easy 3/0. I’m glad I
came back and won the third. Every time we play, it gets harder.
“We’re really good friends and I learn from her a lot – she is a role
model to any player. I hope this battle continues and we keep playing
each other in finals.”
