Marwan ElShorbagy wins Squash Player’s Player of the
Month award
Egyptian
Marwan ElShorbagy has been named Squash Player’s Men’s Player of the
Month, after winning the first PSA World Series title of his career at
the El Gouna International Open in April.
The fourth seed overwhelmed third-seeded compatriot Ali Farag 3/0 in
just 39 minutes to make it third time lucky after losing his two
previous World Series finals at the Windy City Open.
The 24-year-old also upset his brother and top seed, Mohamed, 3/2 in the
semi-finals, the second successive year he has knocked the world
champion out of the event.
“To win my first ever World Series title here in Egypt means a lot to
me,” said Marwan, who will overtake France’s Gregory Gaultier to move to
a career-high world no.3 ranking on
May 1.
“Especially to win it here at home means the world. I’m so happy, I’m
over the moon.
“I’ve lost a few major finals before, but coming into this one, I just
had to learn from the losses I’d had and I had to be more relaxed and
more focused. Me and my coach put a good game plan together before the
match.”
