El Sherbini wins Squash Player’s Player of the Month
award
There
could only be one winner of Squash Player’s February Women’s Player of
the Month, after Egypt’s Nour El Sherbini won two PSA World Series
events in January.
The 22-year-old swiftly put aside the loss of her world crown in
December by claiming the inaugural Saudi PSA Women’s Masters in Riyadh
and following that up by landing her second Tournament of Champions
title in New York.
After comfortably avenging her World Championship final defeat by
compatriot Raneem El Welily in the Saudi final, the world no.1 twice had
to rally from a game down to beat U.S. Open champion Nour El Tayeb in
the USA decider.
“It’s an unbelievable feeling right now; I cannot describe it,” said El
Sherbini after her 2-11, 11-6, 4-11, 11-7, 11-7 victory over El Tayeb
earned her a 15th PSA World Tour title and her fifth PSA Tour trophy of
the season.
“I’m extremely happy. I couldn’t have asked for a better start to 2018.
I’ve been playing well and this is my fifth final in a row.
“I worked really hard in the summer and have been trying to enjoy
playing when I’m out there. That hard work is paying off right now.
Hopefully I can keep this momentum going for the rest of the season.”
