ElShorbagy wins Squash Player’s Player of the Month
award
Newly-crowned
world champion Mohamed ElShorbagy is Squash Player’s Male Player of the
Month for January, after winning the global title for the first time, at
Manchester in December.
The world no.2 from Egypt, runner-up at the event in 2012 and 2014 to
Ramy Ashour, defeated younger brother Marwan 11-5, 9-11, 11-7, 9-11,
11-6 in the first World Championship final between two brothers in its
41-year history.
"It feels great – it’s a dream come true," said Mohamed after winning
the biggest title of his career and the 30th overall.
"Losing the fourth 11-9 was a huge blow. Then I was down in the fifth
and I had to fight and fight; he gave it everything.
“I remember the 2012 match with Ramy. I know how he felt now. There was
so much pressure on me, like Ramy in 2012, and in these matches you just
want to win the last point.
"At the end, we congratulated each other. It was my time today. With
this title, you have to be patient and it will come for him.
“I've won everything in the sport now, but I still have much more to
achieve and more titles to win."
