Rösner wins Squash Player’s Player of the Month award
German
Simon Rösner is Squash Player’s Male Player of the Month for December
after reaching his first PSA World Series semi-final at the Qatar
Classic.
The unseeded 30-year-old upset world champion Karim Abdel Gawad in round
two and sixth seed Marwan ElShorbagy before going out to eighth seed
Tarek Momen in the last four.
“It’s definitely one of the biggest achievements of my career,” Rösner
said. “I had been waiting so long for this win at the quarter-final
stage of a World Series event. Making it this time meant a lot to me. It
was a very special moment.
“I’ve had the chance a few times, but didn’t quite get that win against
a top-four ranked player. I think it just clicked in my head, playing
positively and with a lot of confidence. That’s what you need at this
kind of level.”
The world no.12 from Paderborn now aims to regain his place in the top
six, his highest ranking so far.
