Watanabe wins Squash Player’s Player of the Month
award

Watanabe has become the first Japanese player to be nominated as a
Squash Player Player of the Month after winning the June award.
The 18-year-old was chosen after claiming the first PSA Tour title
of her career at the $5,000 Makati Open in the Philippines in May as
an unseeded player, a week after finishing runner-up in the W5
Malaysian Tour No9 event.
“I think my results have been good because I changed the way I think
about matches and it has worked well,” she said.
However, the reigning US and Hong Kong Junior Open champion still
has things to work on with her coach, who is also her mother.
“I still find things that I need to change,” she said. “I'm working
on both mental and physical aspects of my game.”
Watanabe’s next targets are the World Junior Championship in New
Zealand in July and the Asian Junior Championship in August in
Jordan.
