Player of the Month award

El Sherbini has been named Squash Player’s Female Player of the
Month for May after becoming the first Egyptian woman to retain a
world squash title in April.
The 21-year-old world no.1, who was the first Egyptian woman to win
a PSA World Championship when she won the delayed 2015 event last
year, defeated compatriot Raneem El Welily 11-8, 11-9, 11-9 in the
final at El Gouna.
El Sherbini's victory ended a six-month title drought and brought
her a first major triumph since she lifted her first World
Championship title in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, a year ago.
"I'm over the moon,” she said. “Two or three months ago I didn’t
imagine that I’d win because I haven't won a [major] title this
season.
"It felt like I wasn't going to win this season, but once I knew
that the tournament was going to be in Egypt, I was so excited and I
wanted to come and play in El Gouna.
"I'm really happy to win in front of my home crowd. It's never easy
to play Raneem. I've grown up learning a lot from her and she's told
me a lot of things off court and on court. She's the best 'sister' I
could ever have and I’m really thankful for everything she’s done
for me."
