The big guns finally came head to head in the
last eight in Vienna, with Australia sailing past a weakened Hong Kong
team, and Egypt battling past Wales in the first pair of matches.
In the evening session France overcame Scotland, and Peter Nicol
staged another miracle comeback against Jonathon Power to save England's

No upsets today, as all the matches went to seeding. The top teams are
moving inexorably to their seeded positions for the knockout stages which
start on Wednesday.

Top seeds off to flyers,
Malaysia take control:
The top seeds all got off to flying starts in Vienna -
Australia dropped 4 points against Japan, but Egypt went one better,
losing just 3 points against Bermuda, while England and France cruised to
opening victories.
Hong Kong created the only upset of
the opening day with a 2-1 win over Finland, and New Zealand came close to
upsetting Switzerland as Lars Harms came from behind to beat Glen Wilson
in the top string, while eighth seeds Malaysia came out on top
in their crucial group H clash with ninth-seeded Pakistan.
