NICOL AIMS FOR FOURTH CONSECUTIVE TITLE
England’s world number one Peter Nicol starts his defence
of the Super Series title today at the Bank of Scotland Super Series
Squash Finals at Broadgate Arena in the heart of the City of London. He is
up against the toughest field this event has ever seen with no fewer than
three former world number ones hungry for the top prize.
Highlights of the draw, announced today, include Wednesday evening’s Fleet
Group clash between Nicol and Canada’s Jonathon Power, who is the form
player at the moment, having won the last three head-to-head matches
against the Englishman.
The tournament sees the world’s top eight compete in a specially
constructed glass court for a prize fund of US$50,000 and is the last
event before the Commonwealth Games in Manchester.
Nicol, the reigning Commonwealth and British Open champion, is looking to
extend his record in this tournament to an unprecedented four straight
victories. In addition to Power, his main contenders will be last year’s
finalist and this year’s top seed Australian David Palmer, as well as
Scotland’s John White who was runner-up in this year’s British Open, and
the young Australian Stewart Boswell who finished runner-up to Power at
the PSA Masters in Qatar.
Group stages take place from 17-19 June with the Semi-Finals on 20 June.
The Final and Third Place Play-Off will be held on 21 June.
The event will take place in a specially constructed glass
court in the heart of the City from 5pm each evening. For tickets, call
