Hometown Boy Borja Beats Boswell For Santiago Title

Organisers of the Santiago Open are celebrating their dream climax to the 3-star PSA Tour squash event in Santiago de Compostela after hometown hero Borja Golan battled to a 70-minute win over higher-seeded opponent Stewart Boswell in the men's final at Shopping Center Area Central.

Reproducing the same form which saw him earn a surprise second round place in last month's World Open in England, fourth seed Golan delighted his local fans by beating his second-seeded Australian opponent 11-7, 9-11, 11-3, 11-7.

It was the pair's first ever meeting on the Tour.  Golan was not only celebrating the 17th PSA Tour win of his career - but also the biggest.

The women's WISPA World Tour Tour 4 event final saw French favourite Camille Serme end the courageous run of England's seventh seed Lauren Selby.

Serme, the 19-year-old world No49 from Creteil, took just 22 minutes to overcome Selby 11-7, 11-3, 12-10 to secure the second WISPA Tour title of her career.

Home Hero Golan Reaches Santiago Final

Spanish squash fans will be treated to a dream men's Santiago Open final after hometown hero Borja Golan fought back from two games down to upset Dutch favourite Laurens Jan Anjema in the semi-finals of the 3-star PSA Tour event at Shopping Center Area Central in Santiago de Compostela.

Reproducing the same form which saw him earn a surprise second round place in last month's World Open in England, Golan thrilled his local fans by beating world No14 Anjema 6-11, 7-11, 11-1, 11-7, 11-7 in an 80-minute marathon.

It was the 25-year-old fourth seed from Santiago's first Tour win over the Dutchman in four meetings.

Golan, who celebrated a career-high world No16 ranking this month, now goes on to face Stewart Boswell in the final.  The No2 seed from Australia despatched surprise opponent Miguel Angel Rodriguez, the fifth seed from Colombia, 11-6, 11-8, 11-1.

Boswell, who is celebrating his 30th appearance in a PSA Tour final, will be meeting Golan for the first time.

The women's WISPA World Tour Tour 4 event will also feature a surprise final after England's seventh seed Lauren Selby battled to an 11-9, 11-8, 9-11, 11-8 semi-final win over fifth-seeded compatriot Emma Chorley.

Selby, 24, from Essex, had earlier upset second seed Laura Mylotte in a five-game quarter-final.

Now in her maiden WISPA Tour final, Selby will face France's top seed Camille Serme, who put paid to an all-English final when she ended Victoria Lust's brave run, beating the qualifier 11-7, 12-10, 11-6 to reach her fifth Tour final.

Rodriguez Survives Pilley Marathon In Santiago

Colombian Miguel Angel Rodriguez battled for 95 minutes to pull off an impressive upset over third seed Cameron Pilley in the Santiago Open in Spain to reach the semi-finals of the 3-star PSA Tour men's squash event at Shopping Center Area Central in Santiago de Compostela.

The fast-rising 22-year-old from Bogotá survived two fight backs by Pilley, the world No20 from New South Wales, before winning 11-7, 10-12, 12-10, 8-11, 11-9.

The fifth seed now takes on another Australian Stewart Boswell, the experienced second seed who took 67 minutes to hold off the challenge of promising English opponent Daryl Selby, the seventh seed, before winning 13-11, 11-4, 11-8.

Hometown hero Borja Golan will be hoping to provide Santiago interest in the final with a win over Laurens Jan Anjema in the other semi.  Only two world ranking positions separate the pair - but it is Dutchman Anjema who is the higher placed.

Favourite Anjema reached the semis after beating Czech number one Jan Koukal 11-6, 11-13, 11-8, 11-5, while Santiago star Golan, the fourth seed, despatched Germany's unseeded Simon Rosner 11-4, 11-6, 11-8.

English trio Victoria Lust, Emma Chorley and Lauren Selby caused significant upsets in the women's WISPA World Tour Tour 4 event. Lust, a qualifier, followed her first round win over the fourth seed by defeating Czech opponent Olga Ertlova 11-6, 11-8, 11-9 in the quarter-finals.

Fifth seed Emma Chorley removed third-seeded Welsh opponent Deon Saffery 11-4, 4-11, 11-8, 11-9, while seventh seed Lauren Selby claimed the biggest scalp, overcoming Ireland's No2 seed Laura Mylotte 11-7, 11-8, 7-11, 5-11, 11-8.
