Super League At Full Strength For 2005

The National Squash Super League kicks off in January 2005, boasting a full complement of six teams and 19 of the world's top 30 players already signed up, making it the most competitive league for years ...

nssl 2005 start
2004 Champions Exeter ImperialsLast year's champions Exeter Imperials have added David Palmer (WR 4)  and Renan Lavigne (WR 17) to their formidable squad which already includes John White (WR 7) and Joe Kneipp (WR 10), giving them three players in the top ten. Last season's runners-up Halifax have the current World No 1, Lee Beachill and Nick Matthew (WR 5). New boys Cardiff have Gregory Gaultier (WR 11) and Anthony Ricketts (WR 14), and the other new team Bradford have signed (Simon Parke WR 23).

Fixtures start in January 2005, with the first matches on 31st to avoid a number of PSA tournaments in January. This has resulted in the season being extended to May 2005, which means that the Super League Cup weekend will not take place in 2005.

NSSL LogoAs well as new additions Cardiff, who signed up several months ago, the sixth and final team to join the National Super Squash League is Heaton Tennis & Squash Club from Bradford. Manager Mike Brown said  "We're delighted to be joining such a progressive and prestigious league". Mike added "We have already signed up, Simon Parke, Ali Walker, Nick Taylor and Alex Stait, and are looking for a few extra names to add to the line up before the season starts".

Meanbwhile the Ipswich Sports Club team will move 7 miles to the Martlesham Health and Fitness Club, in Martlesham Suffolk. Ipswich manager Dave Howell stated "We have had 3 wonderful years of Super League squash at Ipswich, we will keep the same team but move to the nearby club at Martlesham Health. The reason for the move is financial and there is no hard feelings between the two clubs.

Dave Taylor, manager of the new venue said, "I am delighted to be hosting what is arguably the strongest National League in the world."
