National Club Championship Finals 2004
15/16 May, Nottingham

Framboise Gommendy
in Nottingham

Day TWO:
Colets & Pontefract
Retain National Club Titles
Chris Nutley reports from Nottingham

Pontefract showed little mercy in dispatching New Eltham 5-0 to retain the Women's National Club Championship and are now looking forward to defending their European Club title in September.

The Men's Championship was far closer with Colets sneaking a 3-2 win over Heaton. Heaton had been reinforced by the arrival of Alex Stait who flew into the country over night. However the match stood at two all when Mark Cairns and Paul Lord took to the show court. Mark had clearly recovered from the ankle injury that he has suffering in Saturdays Men's Over 35 win and eased to a 3-0 win that sealed the title for Colets for the second year running.

Leamington finally won the Junior Mixed Final after finishing runners-up to  Pontefract for the last couple of years and ran out comfortable 5-0 winners against a young Bishops Stortford side.

The Racketball Final was highly entertaining with good vocal support for  both clubs. After a very tight encounter Ashley Flathers ensured that Queens claimed the title with a 3-2 win over Redbridge's Danny Weights.

Nottingham reclaimed the Men's Over 45 title with a 3-0 win over Purley while Chapel Allerton beat the Non County Mixed holders Bexley 3-1.

Day 1:

Colets and New Eltham
retain their Over 35 titles
Chris Nutley reports

New Eltham made it five years in a row in the Women's Over 35 category with a 2-1 victory over Chapel Allerton while Colets won their fifth Men's Over 35 title in six years in a repeat of last year's triumph over Wigan.

In the Men's Championship, Colets beat Limpsfield 3-2 in a tense match while Heaton eased past Nottingham 4-1.

The Women's Final will be a repeat of last year after New Eltham dispatched Redland Bristol 5-0 and Pontefract bt Nottingham by the same margin. Pontefract went on from last years victory to claim the European Club Championship but will face a determined New Eltham side looking to avenge last years defeat.
