Italians Beaten In Brescia

Domestic interest in the Mega Italia Open was extinguished in the quarter-finals when the event's two remaining Italians failed to make it through to the last four in Brescia.

After a tie-break in the third game of his quarter-final, however, unseeded Luca Mastrostefano took a 2/1 lead against Egypt's Mohamed Ismail. In the fourth game, the Italian immediately lost the serve, and then the next ten points as Ismail levelled the match before cruising to a 7-11 11-2 10-11 11-0 11-4 victory and a place in the semi-finals.

Brescia-based seventh seed Andrea Bianchetti was no match for England's top seed Scott Handley, who needed only 32 minutes to carve out an 11-6 11-5 11-6 win.

Handley now meets English qualifier Daryl Selby, who beat unseeded compatriot Peter Billson 11-1 11-9 7-11 11-9.
