Pilley & Pittock Take Honours
At Queensland Open

Australians Cameron Pilley, the top seed from New South Wales, and Amelia Pittock, the third seed from Victoria, claimed the men's and women's squash titles respectively at the Queensland Open in Rockhampton today.

World No60 Pilley, the 2002 Western Australia Open champion, defeated fourth seed Peter Hughes - a fellow Australian appearing in his first PSA Tour final - 15-7 15-7 15-8 to clinch his first Queensland Open title. He won all his four matches at the Open in straight games to claim his fourth PSA title.

Pittock, ranked 35 in the world, created an upset when she came back from a game down to beat top seed Heidi Mather of NSW, ranked four places above, 5-9 9-1 10-8 9-4 to score her first Queensland Open title.

Queensland-based Pittock, aged 20 and one of Australia's most exciting young squash players, reached the Australian Open semi-finals in Adelaide last month - but was celebrating her maiden WISPA World Tour final appearance in Rockhampton.

It was Mather's second successive defeat in a Queensland Open final. In 2002 she went down to Victorian Dianne Desira, who was a first round loser this time after suffering on court with a stomach virus.

RECORD ENTRY IN
ROCKHAMPTON

With 176 entries, the Queensland Open has officially broken its own record of the number of entries received in previous years, reports Lisa Walton from Inform Connect.

With players coming from all over the world, the scene is set for an awesome weekend of squash in Rockhampton.

The Men's Draw has Cameron Pilley as number one seed over Mark Price as number 2, while in the Women's event, Heidi Mather is seeded 1 with Dianne Desira as 2.

This should provide some interesting finals if the top seeds make it through.
