El Hammamy Returns to Top Five in June PSA Women’s Rankings

Egypt’s Hania El Hammamy has broken back into the top five after the PSA Women’s World Rankings for June were released today (June 1).

The 20-year-old made it to the semi-finals of the El Gouna International Squash Open last month where she was felled by eventual winner Nour El Sherbini in a nail-biting five-game thriller. It is a joint career-high ranking for El Hammamy who had spent April and May outside of the top five.

Meanwhile, El Sherbini has recorded her eighth consecutive month at World No.1 after collecting the El Gouna title and she sits ahead of runner-up Nouran Gohar, World No.3 Nour El Tayeb and World No.4 Camille Serme.

USA’s Amanda Sobhy and England’s Sarah-Jane Perry drop a spot to No.6 and No.7, respectively, as a result of El Hammamy’s rise, while New Zealand’s Joelle King, Egypt’s Salma Hany and Wales’ Tesni Evans complete the top 10.

Egypt’s Rowan Elaraby is on the rise as she moves up two spots to a career best ranking of No.12, with USA’s Olivia Clyne and Belgium’s Nele Gilis both dropping a solitary place.

The other movement in the top 20 sees USA’s Sabrina Sobhy drop out and she is replaced by national teammate Olivia Fiechter, who rises four places to reach the top 20 for the first time.

Hong Kong’s Chan Sin Yuk is the biggest mover on the women’s tour this month. The
18-year-old has risen 107 places to reach No.114 in the rankings after she won her first PSA Challenger Tour title at the Chairman Cup 2 in May. Kaitlyn Watts of New Zealand has also enjoyed a significant move up the rankings, rising 107 places to No.127 on account of winning both the Waikato Open and the Panmure Tecnifibre Open in May.
