Tom takes the Title
Tom Richards took the JW Cannon BSPA Grand Prix Finals
with victory over Ben Coleman at Roehampton Club.
Both players started the first game patiently as they looked to find their
rhythm. Ben soon found himself 9/5 up but some tough physical points saw Tom
claw his way back into the game and took control winning 11/9.
The 2nd seemed to be a reverse of the first, 6/6 then 10/6 to
Tom, Ben dug deep and got the score back to 10/10 before some amazing
rallies saw Ben take the game 15/13 and deservedly level at 1 game all.
The 3rd game entertained the crowd but an
error from Ben at 8/6 gave Tom momentum, which he duly took, to go on and
win 11/8.
The 4th Tom seemed more confident hitting
some wonderful winners to go 5/1 up and although Ben fought tirelessly Tom
closed out the game and match 11/4 taking the title.
Tom appropriately
thanked those involved in the event at the Roehampton Club, including
sponsors JW Cannon.

Tom Richards v Joe Green –
Tom started fast racing to a 5/0 lead in the first and although Joe gave
everything to get back into the game Tom held firm to win 11/4. A close
second saw the crowd entertained with long rallies and amazing retrieval
with Tom opening up a 4/1 lead, always staying in front to take the 2nd
11/8. The 3rd game could have graced any top tournament
with both players playing the ball and showing why they are such athletes on
court. Toms edge on finishing points proved to be too much for Joe as Tom
won 11/8 to seal the match 3-0.
Tom Richards
bt Joe Green 11/4, 11/8, 11/8.
Ben Coleman v Lyell Fuller –
The first looked to be Bens as he opened up a 6/3 lead, then
Lyell edge ahead thanks to errors, with a 9/7 lead, but at 10/10 the players
battled for every ball and advantage they could get with Ben eventually
coming out on top 14/12.
The close nature of this match continued in the 2nd at 4/4, 6/6,
7/7 until Lyell then made a few too many errors and Ben was quick to pounce
and take the 2nd 11/8.
Lyell seemed the slower of the two in the 3rd
around court as his shots started to allow Ben to attack more and Ben took
full advantage to close the match 11/2 and his place in the final against
Tom tomorrow.
Ben Coleman
bt Lyell Fuller 14/12, 11/8, 11/2
