Enriquez Claims
Maiden Crown
Guatemala’s Alejandro Enriquez downed a trio of Mexicans to claim his
maiden Tour title, winning the Challenger 3 level 2nd Squash Inn Classic
– Sponsored by Faltami on Sunday afternoon.
The World No.183, who had reached one previous final on Tour, at the 1st
Guatemala Open Squash PSA Tournament earlier this year, came into the
competition as the No.3 seed, and he started off with a five-game win
over Jorge Gomez.
He then defeated England’s Chris Fuller, the tournament’s No.7 seed, in
the quarter finals to make it through to the last four, where Enriquez
then overcame the challenge of the event’s top seed, Alejandro Reyes.
The pair were level after two games, before the Guatemala came through
to win in four and book his spot in the final.
The final of the 2nd Squash Inn Classic – Sponsored by Faltami saw
Enriquez take on No.4 seed Allan Nunez, the third Mexican he faced over
the course of the tournament. It was a straight games victory for the
Guatemalan, winning 11-6, 11-7, 11-7 in 51 minutes to claim his maiden
Tour title. |
Enriquez
And Nunez To Meet In Final
The final of the 2nd Squash Inn Classic – Sponsored by Faltami will see
Guatemala’s Alejandro Enriquez and Mexican Allan Nunez battle it out for
the Challenger 3 level crown on Sunday afternoon in Mexico City.
The Guatemalan, the No.3 seed for the competition, faced off against the
tournament’s top seed, Mexico’s Alejandro Reyes, in the semi-finals, and
he came through to take the win in four games.
Enriquez won the first game 11-5, but then saw the home favourite tie
the match up with a reversal of the same scoreline. From there though,
the Guatemalan then took control, and won the next two games, both 11-6,
to advance through to the final with a 3-1 victory.
He will now face another Mexican, in No.4 seed Allan Nunez, in that
final on Sunday afternoon, after a match that followed the same pattern
as the first semi-final contest. The pair were level after two, before
the Mexican took the lead. The fourth was closer, going to a tie-break,
and it was Nunez who won it 13-11 to book his place in the final.

Unseeded Vargas Continues Run
The second day of the 2nd Squash Inn Classic – Sponsored by Faltami saw
the unseeded Leo Vargas continue his knockout run in Mexico City, as he
took out a seeded player for the second straight day.
Vargas overcame No.2 seed Miled Zarazua on the opening day of the
Challenger 3 level competition, and he came into his quarter final tie
with No.8 see Rodolfo Vega full of confidence. The Mexican won the first
two games comfortably, dropping just six points across them, but then
lost the third 13-11. He regrouped though to win the fourth, to book his
spot in the last four.
He will now face No.4 seed Allan Nunez in the semi-finals of the
tournament, after his fellow Mexican overcame another of the unseeded
players to make it through the first round, Juan Carlos Gomez. Nunez won
the first on a tie-break, before cruising to a straight game victory to
advance to the last four.
The other semi-final will see top seed Alejandro Reyes take on
Guatemala’s Alejandro Enriquez for a place in the finals on Sunday,
after they came through their respective quarter final contests against
Bryan Cueto and Chris Fuller.
The semi-finals of the 2nd Squash Inn Classic – Sponsored by Faltami
will take place on Saturday, May 28, with the last four doing battle to
reach Sunday’s finals in Mexico City.
