Away
from the serious business of the professional tournament, one of the
highlights of this year's Brit Insurance Super Series Finals will be a
Celebrity-Am doubles tournament to raise funds for the The Lords Taverners.
The event will take place on the tournament court on the Thursday and Friday
of tournament week and the list of confirmed celebrities is growing by the
week.
Amongst those already confirmed include
former England cricketers Alec Stewart,
Mike Gatting and Graeme Hick, Great Britain rugby league
legend Ellery Hanley, TV presenter Jamie Theakston and
British Olympic table tennis star, Matthew Syed.
Sponsors Brit Insurance are offering eight amateur
squash fans the chance to pair up with a celebrity partner and take part in
this unique doubles competition on the all-glass tournament court at the
Broadgate Arena. |

Qualifying events will take place at the Lambs Health and Fitness club (1
Lambs passage, Chiswell St, London EC1) on the 25th and 27th April (from
5.00pm).
All amateurs are welcome. Both qualifying events will take the form of a
singles knock-out competition with four players going through each night to
the Semi-Finals of the celebrity-am doubles at the Broadgate Arena on
Thursday 12th May. The winners will contest the final in front of a packed
crowd at Broadgate Arena on Friday 13th May, providing curtain raiser to the
final of the Brit Insurance Super Series Finals.
Entry is open to all and there is no registration fee. However, a donation
to the Lord's Taverners, the tournaments official charity, would be
gratefully appreciated!
Anybody interested in participating in either of the qualifying events
should email the Tournament Manager, Harry Owen on
harry.owen@wsmsport.com
for more information.
Entries close on April
15th 2005.
Who are the Lord's Taverners?
The
Lord's Taverners broad mission is to give young people, particularly those
with special needs, a sporting chance. We achieve this by providing
opportunities for young people, able bodied or with disabilities, to
participate in sport and recreation. Over the last 50 years we have given
away over 36million pounds to schools, sports clubs and special needs
organisations.
Our annual disbursement of grant aid is divided between the development of
cricket at a grass roots level in the UK, providing specially adapted
minibuses and supporting sport and recreation for young people with special
needs.
