Brit Insurance short-listed for
2004 Sports Industry Award

Brit Insurance’s sponsorship of the 2003 Brit Insurance Super Series Finals was last night short-listed for a prestigious award at the 2004 Sports Industry Awards Dinner at the London Hilton Hotel on Park Lane.

Brit was amongst the nominees for the category of ‘Best Sponsorship of a Sporting Event or Programme’ for its inaugural year as title sponsor of the prestigious world squash event at London’s Broadgate Arena in May 2003.

Also included on the short list were MacDonald’s, Royal Bank of Scotland, NatWest and Zurich. The Award was presented to Stella Artois for its sponsorship of the Stella Artois Lawn Tennis Championships.

Speaking after the Awards Ceremony, Phil Wolski, Head of Marketing at Brit Insurance, said: “Our inaugural sponsorship year was an outstanding success. Record ticket sales and huge media coverage really put the Super Series on the sporting map. To have featured in the short list for this prestigious award – especially alongside such big names – is a real honour for Brit.

“Supporting the Super Series – and British squash – is a long-term commitment for Brit. We are supporting the event again in 2004 and hope to repeat the success.”

All nominees were commended for the quality and scope of their sponsorship activity and the effectiveness with which the sponsorship met the sponsor’s specific brief and objectives.

Brit was praised for the sponsorship programme formulated and activated in conjunction with Tournament Promoters, WSM, the London-based sports marketing agency. The common objective of all Brit’s sponsorship activity around the 2003 Finals was aimed at raising the company’s profile to a targeted city audience. This was successfully achieved through a programme of media, event and hospitality led initiatives in the run up to, and during, tournament week.
