Ellery Hanley v Alec Stewart
After a brief coaching session with John
White, former Wigan and Great Britain rugby league star,
Ellery Hanley, and former England and Surrey CCC cricket captain
Alec Stewart played each other in front of an enthusiastic crowd on
the tournament court.
The power and brawn of the rugby league man narrowly got the better of
England's most capped ever Test cricketer. Hanley won 2-1 but was
surprised by how quickly the Surrey man grasped the game.
It was only Stewart's fourth ever appearance on a squash court - and he
hadn't picked up a racket since England's tour to Sri Lanka three years
ago - but he left vowing to buy himself a racket and play some more.
Ellery has been assisting John with his
preparation for tournaments such as the Brit Insurance Super Series
Finals, and has been a star attraction at several recent squash events.
