Dubai Joins PSA World Series

  Dubai Joins PSA World Series

#PSAWorldTour

The Professional Squash Association (PSA) are delighted to announce that they have signed a three-year agreement with Dubai-based events company Panacea Dubai that will see the Middle Eastern state become the latest destination to be added to the PSA World Series.

The agreement will see some of the best squash players in the world converge in Dubai for the first time ever in March 2015 when they stage one of the pinnacle events in the 2014/15 PSA World Series, following in the footsteps of neighbours Qatar and Saudi Arabia to have staged top flight squash tournaments.

The move sees Dubai join the likes of New York's iconic J.P Morgan Tournament of Champions, the long-standing Cathay Pacific Sung Hung Kai Financial Hong Kong Squash Open and the prestigious Allam British Open in adhering to the PSA's recently unveiled calendar requirements, which necessitate that World Series event must commit to a minimum three-year presence on the elite-level tour.

“We’re extremely happy to welcome Dubai on board as the latest country to become associated with the PSA World Series and look forward to what promises to be an exciting new tournament on the PSA World Tour,” said PSA Chief Executive Alex Gough.

“Squash has received tremendous backing from the Middle East in recent years and we are pleased to see this expand yet further with the first ever PSA World Series event to take place in Dubai.

“Dubai has been synonymous with world class sport in recent years and we are delighted that squash will now have an opportunity to stake it’s claim on that already impressive list.”

2015 Dubai Squash Open director, Tasveer Basheer, said: “We are delighted to confirm that we will be staging the 2015 Dubai Open in March along with the PSA in what promises to be the latest world class sporting event to come to Dubai.

“I feel certain that all the players and everyone involved will have a great time in Dubai and we look forward to welcoming them and watching the competition unfold in one of the world's most iconic locations.”

PSA Asia Representative Ritwik Bhattacharya said: "We are very excited to bring squash to Dubai in what we see as an integral event on the PSA World Tour Calendar. Having a major event staged in Dubai will be a huge boost to the development of squash in this part of the world and I look forward to working closely with everyone involved to ensure the success of the tournament."
