ASHAWAY SIGNS PALMER

Ashaway Extends Sponsorship Agreement with David Palmer

Ashaway Racket Strings recently signed squash great David Palmer to a two-year extension of his sponsorship agreement. The Belgian-based Aussie has just reclaimed the world number one ranking more than four years after last topping the list, according to the February Dunlop PSA Men's World Squash Rankings, published by the Professional Squash Association. Palmer has consistently ranked in the top ten since first earning the number one ranking in September 2001. Palmer crowned a highly successful past twelve months by winning the Windy City Open, where he beat Canadian Jonathan Power in a dramatic five-game final in Chicago.

"We're delighted to be able to keep David in the Ashaway stable for another two years," said Steve Crandall, Vice President of Marketing for Ashaway. "Not only is he one of the best players in the world, he's also an excellent sportsman and a consummate professional. And the fact that he likes Ashaway PowerNick(R) 18 string is an added plus!"

David likes PowerNick because its multifilament Zyex(R) core gives him a good combination of power, ball control, and dynamic response. "The best thing about Ashaway string is it just doesn't break," said Palmer. "I'm the type of player who finds at the start of a week that one racket feels really good and its great to be able to use that one racket the whole tournament." Nonetheless, he added, he routinely gets four or five rackets restrung before major tournaments so that when a string does break, he has back-ups ready with the same string and tension.

"David is very enthusiastic about the game and his prospects," said Crandall. "Among his many credits, he has won 16 PSA Tour titles, the 2002 World Open and Super Series Finals, as well as the 2001, 2003 & 2004 British Opens. He reached the finals in his last four 2005 tournaments, including the World Open, before reclaiming the number one spot in Chicago. We wish him well and are very glad he's sticking with Ashaway string."

Ashaway Racket Strings are made by Ashaway Line & Twine Mfg. Co., the only U.S. manufacturer of string for squash, tennis, racquetball, and badminton. Operated by the Crandall family since 1824, Ashaway has been making racket strings since 1949, and is responsible for several important technical innovations. Ashaway is the Official String of USA Racquetball, the International Racquetball Tour, the Professional Squash Association and the Women's International Squash Players Association. Ashaway Line & Twine Mfg. Co. also makes braided products for medical and industrial applications.
