Tim Garner To Step Down
From WSA Role
It is with regret that the
WSA World Tour must announce that Tim Garner will step down as Tour
Director at the end of June.
Tim has had a significant influence on the women’s game during his two
highly successful years in the role. He has been involved with all
aspects of the Tour, in particular the rebrand from WISPA to WSA and the
introduction of the WSA World Series events, as well as helping to
establish a closer working relationship with all the stake-holders,
particularly the PSA World Tour.
He now feels that he cannot dedicate enough time to the position, given
his other duties in the squash world. Tim said: “It has been a tough
decision to make as I have really enjoyed working with WSA and its Board
& members.
“However, having been involved in the World Series Finals, Canary Wharf
Classic & British Open in recent months I realised that it is almost
impossible for me to perform the Tour Director duties to a level that
the players deserve on a part-time basis.”
Tim will still be a regular face in the squash world, as his company
Eventis Sports Marketing Ltd will continue to be heavily involved behind
the scenes with a number of tournament fixtures on the WSA World Tour
calendar.
“I feel that I can help them all more by being involved in squash in a
different capacity,” he explains. “And the association will be better
served by having someone else in the Tour Director position whose sole
focus is the WSA.”
The role of Tour Director will be filled by former world No25 Suzie
Pierrepont for the interim period while the search for a permanent
candidate is under way. Already a WSA board member and with eight years
of experience on the WSA World Tour, Suzie is seen as an ideal candidate
for temporarily filling the role.
She said: “Tim leaving the WSA is obviously a huge loss for the tour,
but I am excited to continue the work that he and the dedicated board of
directors have been doing.
“I look forward to reconnecting with many of our members in my new
position. It is a privilege to be able to make good use of my
experiences as a player and all squash related work I have been involved
with.”
WSA World Tour Chairman and acting CEO Ingrid Lofdahl-Bentzer paid
tribute to Tim, for not just his contribution to the WSA but also from a
personal point of view. “Tim has been fantastic for the WSA during the
last two years, in spite of only working part-time for us. The
expertise he has brought to the Tour Director position has been
instrumental to many of the changes the WSA World Tour has needed, and I
will miss his wise counsel in business as well as personally.”
“However, he leaves after having helped us establish a very good base
from which we can move forward. I have no doubt that Suzie will be
excellent in stepping into the role, and we wish Tim every success for
the future.”
