Crisis Causes Cancellation of CAS International
The
unprecedented floods in Pakistan have caused the cancellation of the established
CAS International, a Professional Squash Association World Tour
event which was due to take place in Islamabad in September.
"You would
appreciate that the country is in deep crisis these days - all available
resources in the country are being utilized to rescue the lives of people and
extend all out administrative support to the affected areas," said Pakistan
Squash Federation Honorary Secretary Wing Commander Irfan Asghar in
correspondence with the PSA today.
"We at PSF
therefore regret that, at this critical stage, we would not be able to hold
CAS International Squash Championship in last week of September 2010."
In supporting
the PSF's decision, PSA Tour Executive Sheila Cooksley responded:
"We have all been shocked by the recent disasters taking place in your country.
It is heartbreaking to see the plight of the people in the country. It is indeed
a very deep crisis and our sympathies and condolences go to all those affected."
"The PSA will
continue to support your efforts in your country. We do appreciate all that you
do for your players to maintain their participation in the international squash
arena."
