World of Squash Golf Day ‘08

World of Squash Golf Day ‘08

The inaugural World of Squash Golf Day took place over the beautiful Coronation Course, at the stunning RAC, Woodcote Park, last week and has been described as a resounding success by all concerned.

The initiative launched by Eventis will brought together golfers from all walks of squash, including players, sponsors, administrators, media and fans of the sport. Travelling from as far afield as South Africa, Germany & Ireland the competitors were treated to a wonderful days entertainment, which stretched from the bacon rolls on arrival to Adrian ‘Wizard’ Davies wrapping things up with an auction in his own entertaining style.

On the course, the golf ranged from the distinctly mediocre to the sublime, with England Squash’s Chris Nutley holing from 150 yards out the pick of the latter. Back in the club house the prizes were awarded with New Malden II pipping England Squash for the team event by virtue of a count back after the two ended tied on 90 points. There was no such drama in the individual where Trinity Mirror’s guest James Motley romped home with 45 points, a result of the 15 handicapper going round in just 6 over! Needless to say that he was given a vociferous reception on collecting his prize of a Prince Speedport Black squash racket.

The evening ended with the aforementioned auction in aid of the London Squash Academy, yet another Eventis concept, which will be set up to increase young children’s participation in squash in London. Over £3,000s was raised thanks to the generosity of those who had donated prizes and those who bid for them. The money will be used to implement the programme this autumn and more details will be available shortly.
