SQUASH |
‘The Mini Wall’ - a brand new development initiative aimed at increasing awareness of the game and encouraging more young people to play squash.

Friday 14th
Feb 2003 was a landmark in the development of the game of squash. It was
the day that Squash Factory and England Squash officially launched the new
Mini Wall before the start of the evening action at the National
Squash Championships in Manchester. The Mini Wall has already received rave reviews from schools, sports colleges, coaches and clubs who have taken part in the pilot development process. The Mini Wall provides players with a unique controlled rebound to assist the development of key skills and is an ideal resource for use in a school or sports hall as part of your coaching programme or school – club link activity. |

Adrian Christy, National Development Manager, says: "This really is a brilliant product in that it helps clubs to develop their outreach programmes. There is an increasing drive among educational establishments to widen the experiences of young people in sport; in the past, squash has missed many opportunities because of the perception that the game cannot be taught in schools that don't have courts. The Mini Wall removes that barrier, as has been demonstrated by schools that have taken part in the testing process." The Mini Wall was launched at the Nationals with Peter Nicol and Vicky Botwright, and drew tremendous interest from visitors to the National Squash Centre. |
TAVISTOCK WINS THE WALL
17-Apr From Tavistock Today TAVISTOCK Squash Club has been presented with a Squash Factory Mini Wall after winning it in a competition. The mini wall has been officially endorsed by England Squash as a revolutionary new product for learning and practising the game outside a squash court, and was presented to the club by Emma Gibson of England Squash. The presentation took place at Tavistock Community Primary School in front of a group of children looking forward to having their first experience on the mini wall. Emma, regional development officer for England Squash said: "The Squash Factory Mini Wall will take squash into the local community and significantly help to introduce new players to the game." Leading grassroots sports agency Factory Eleven, in association with England Squash, has developed the Squash Factory Mini Wall. Peter Gray, director of Factory Eleven, said: "We are especially proud to be working with England Squash and for them to be utilising our Squash Factory concept to change the perception of the game and its accessibility for young players." Malcolm Tripp from Tavistock Squash Club accepted the mini wall on behalf of the club. The squash club won the mini wall in a competition held in the Squash Player magazine. |
"Key development tool" Managing Director of Squash Factory, Peter Gray, says: "We are very excited about our partnership with England Squash and by being able to provide them with a key development tool for their new squash programmes. It has taken us over 18 months to develop the right rebound characteristics to create a 'real game' experience for young beginners and developing players alike. We are also aware that development tools such as the Mini Wall are not just for use in clubs and leisure centres, but also in schools. Therefore, we had to ensure that the Mini Wall could be transported and stored, assembled and taken down in as little time as possible, thereby maximising the opportunities for use." |
"Fantastic" The last words are left top the new National Champion and world number 1, Peter Nicol: "This is fantastic and something I wish had been around when I was starting out."
