Finals:
Paul Johnson bt Simon Parke 10-15 15-5 15-8 1-15 15-7 (78m)
Cassie Jackman bt Sue Wright 9-5 3-9 6-9 9-0 9-6 (75m)

Top seeds Paul Johnson and Cassie Jackman both survived five-game battles against defending champions to lift the National titles. After losing the first game, Johnson, appeared to take control of the match against Simon Parke, taking the next two games to forge a 2-1 lead.  A rejuvenated Parke, however, then claimed the fourth game in a single hand from one-all to level the tie and move into a 4/1 lead in the fifth. To the delight of the near sell-out crowd at Britain's National Cycling Centre, both players were called upon to deliver squash artistry of the very highest order - with Johnson ultimately re-establishing command of the court to register a 10/15 15/5 15/8 1/15 15/7 victory in 78 minutes, and claim the British squash title for the first time.

"What I have achieved over the last year has exceeded my wildest dreams," said the ecstatic left-hander who won gold and bronze medals in last September's Commonwealth Games, and leapt from 20 to 4 in the world rankings. "I've felt under a lot of pressure throughout the week - being top seed is unfamiliar territory for me!"

In the women's final Cassie Jackman fought back from 2-1 down to beat defending champion Sue Wright 9/5 3/9 6/9 9/0 9/6, to reclaim the British title she last won in 1993. The 75-minute encounter - almost twice as long as any other women's match in the tournament - reversed the result of the pair's last two final meetings.

Jackman was returning to top-flight competition after a four-month layoff due to an ankle injury. "Despite being top seed, I came into the event without feeling any pressure at all - it was just so good to be back involved again," said the world No4 who partnered Wright to gold medal success in the Commonwealth Games women's doubles.
