One of the most stylish squash players in the world will be dazzling the crowds in this year’s Maidstone Open, the final event in the BSPA Prince Grand Prix circuit for 2002/03.

Scotland’s World No.12 Martin Heath confirmed his entry this week and goes into the draw as top seed.

The star-studded event takes place at Maidstone Squash Club over the weekend of May 9-11.

Heath, 29, reached a career-best position of four in the world three years ago but has slipped down the rankings because of injuries.

However, last week he showed he is back to top form when he beat world No.5 John White to win the Scottish National Championships in Aberdeen.

Maidstone Open tournament director Alan Thatcher said: “We are delighted to have a player of Martin’s calibre in the draw. He is one of the most skilful and gifted players in the game and spectators will be amazed his repertoire of shots.”

Reigning champion Nick Matthew, from Yorkshire, will be back to defend the title he won in sensational fashion last year by coming back from 11-4 down in the fifth game to beat top seed Peter Genever, from Sussex, in the final.

Kent star Adrian Grant, now up to a career-high 27 in the world, will also be competing.
