RULES  OF  SQUASH / RACKETBALL,
REFEREEING  and  MARKING

RULES COURSES
WITH IAN WRIGHT

If you play Squash or Racketball,
you should know the RULES of the Game.

  • Do you know when to ask for a LET?
  • Do you lose matches because you do not
    know the rules?

  • Every squash/racketball player should attend a course of instruction on the rules even if he/she does not wish to mark or referee a game.

No player would attempt to play rugby, soccer, hockey or cricket without a basic knowledge of the rules so why play squash/racketball without the full knowledge of its rules.

It has more complex rules than other racket sports, due to the fact that both players are on the same side of the net !  It is useful to be able to mark or referee,  while you are waiting to play and there is an added incentive to get the best view of the game - free of charge !

I am one of the few SRA Official Tutors and have given courses in most Kent clubs as I have been the County Secretary for over THIRTY YEARS.  I have also lectured on the Rules in most of the Squash playing countries of the world.  My courses  last around three hours, subject to the number of questions put to me and the enthusiasm of the pupils.  Rules are normally heavy going,  particularly if the lecture is after a normal working day.

However,  time passes very quickly,  ask any of my former 3,000 pupils !  I try to make the lecture amusing when recalling stories of personal experiences gained from lecturing world wide.  I have been involved in Squash for over 50 years in UK, Europe, Kuwait, Pakistan, Thailand, Singapore, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Scandinavia, South Africa, Brazil, Japan, Hong Kong, Egypt, Israel, Bermuda, United Arab Emirates and USA so I have plenty of amusing stories to tell.

I require a suitable quiet room or corner of the bar for a two and a half hours lecture (average).  I bring my own display material, including stands.

At least ten pupils should attend the course to make it self-supporting financially for the host club/centre.  There is no maximum number - I had 60 on a course in Toronto !

The FEE for the COURSE is based on the SRA rates.  It is suggested that the Club/Centre makes a charge of around £3 per pupil, IN ADVANCE, to ensure a known attendance figure and to offset most of the costs.
