Vanessa Atkinson, who remained in The Hague when her
British father moved on to pursue his civil engineering career
elsewhere, became the first Dutch player ever to win a world squash
title.
The sport's most surprising late developer achieved that with an
overwhelming 9-1, 9-1, 9-5 victory in the final over Natalie Grinham,
the Australian who had beaten her at the Dutch Open at her home city
six months ago.
