England's Nick Taylor became the surprise winner of the Motor City Open title after beating Canada's Graham Ryding in four games in the final in Detroit. Fifth seed Taylor, the world No27 from Manchester who celebrates his 31st birthday on Tuesday, reached the final after upsetting third-seeded Frenchman Renan Lavigne in the semi-finals. In his third final this year, Taylor defeated fourth-seeded Ryding to secure the 10th PSA Tour title of his career.

It was a disappointing conclusion for Pan Am champion Ryding, however, who claimed the biggest upset of the event when he toppled top seed Anthony Ricketts, the newly-installed world No10 from Brisbane, in the semi-finals. It was the first PSA final appearance since November 1998 for the 27-year-old world No24 from Toronto who is now based in Amsterdam.

Taylor Downs Parke In Detroit
England's Nick Taylor fought back from 2-0 down to defeat unseeded compatriot Simon Parke 6-15, 14-15, 15-5, 17-15, 15-10 to reach the semi-finals of the Motor City Squash Open in Detroit - and avenge his five-game loss to Parke in the final of the Salt Lake City Open in July.

Taylor, the fifth seed from Manchester, now faces third-seeded Frenchman Renan Lavigne, who also survived a five-game clash in overcoming Australian qualifier Dan Jenson 15-10, 15-5, 13-15, 14-15, 15-6.

The other semi-final will feature top seeded Australian Anthony Ricketts and  Canada's fourth seed Graham Ryding, who reached the last four after his English opponent retired injured after only three points into the third game.

First Round

Casteleyn 'Parked' In Motor City Crash

England's unseeded Simon Parke pulled off a notable upset in the first round when he dismissed Belgium's second seed Stefan Casteleyn 15-7 15-11 15-10. Casteleyn had been elevated to second seed as part of the redraw necessitated by the withdrawal of David Evans.

The Nottingham-based former world No3 from Yorkshire, fighting his way back  into the sport's elite after ankle surgery, now takes on compatriot Nick Taylor, the fifth seed who defeated South Africa's Rodney Durbach 15-12, 15-13, 15-11.  Parke and Taylor last met in the Squashworks Open final in  Salt Lake City in July, when the Yorkshireman triumphed in a five-game battle.

Australia's Dan Jenson, another player fighting his way to top form after injury, became the only qualifier to reach the quarter-final stage.  The former world No5 beat eighth seed Peter Genever 15-10, 15-8, 15-9 and will now take France's third seed Renan Lavigne.

Matt Jenson failed to join his older brother in the Detroit last eight, going down 15-10, 15-5, 15-4 to Canada's fourth seed Graham Ryding.
