England's Nick Taylor became the surprise winner of the Motor City
Open title after beating Canada's Graham Ryding in four games in the
final in Detroit. Fifth seed Taylor, the world
No27 from Manchester who celebrates his 31st birthday on Tuesday,
reached the final after upsetting third-seeded Frenchman Renan Lavigne
in the semi-finals. In his third final this
year, Taylor defeated fourth-seeded Ryding to secure the 10th PSA Tour
title of his career.
It was a disappointing conclusion for Pan Am champion Ryding, however,
who claimed the biggest upset of the event when he toppled top seed
Anthony Ricketts, the newly-installed world No10 from Brisbane, in the
semi-finals. It was the first PSA final appearance since November 1998
for the 27-year-old world No24 from Toronto who is now based in
Amsterdam.

England's Nick Taylor fought back from 2-0
down to defeat unseeded compatriot Simon Parke 6-15, 14-15, 15-5,
17-15, 15-10 to reach the semi-finals of the
Motor City Squash Open in Detroit - and avenge his five-game loss to
Parke in the final of the Salt Lake City
Open in July.
Taylor, the fifth seed from Manchester, now faces third-seeded
Frenchman Renan Lavigne, who also survived a five-game clash in
overcoming Australian qualifier Dan Jenson
15-10, 15-5, 13-15, 14-15, 15-6.
The other semi-final will feature top seeded Australian Anthony
Ricketts and Canada's fourth seed
Graham Ryding, who reached the last four after his
English opponent retired injured after only three points into
the third game.

Casteleyn 'Parked' In Motor City Crash
England's unseeded Simon Parke pulled off a notable upset in
the first round when he dismissed Belgium's
second seed Stefan Casteleyn 15-7 15-11 15-10.
Casteleyn had been elevated to second seed as part of the redraw
necessitated by the withdrawal of David Evans.
The Nottingham-based former world No3 from Yorkshire, fighting his way
back into the sport's elite after
ankle surgery, now takes on compatriot Nick
Taylor, the fifth seed who defeated South Africa's Rodney Durbach
15-12, 15-13, 15-11. Parke and Taylor last
met in the Squashworks Open final in Salt
Lake City in July, when the Yorkshireman triumphed in a five-game
battle.
Australia's Dan Jenson, another player fighting his way to top form
after injury, became the only qualifier to reach the quarter-final
stage. The former world No5 beat eighth
seed Peter Genever 15-10, 15-8, 15-9 and will now take France's third
seed Renan Lavigne.
Matt Jenson failed to join his older brother in the Detroit last
eight, going down 15-10, 15-5, 15-4 to Canada's fourth seed Graham
Ryding.
