Pakistan Circuit #2 2003
30-Apr ~ 03 May, Lahore, Pakistan, $25k

Final:
KARIM CLAIMS PAK-TELECOM TITLE
Top seed Karim Darwish claimed the title in the $25,000 Pak Telecom Open in Lahore, beating fellow Egyptian Amr Shabana in the final.

Darwish, celebrating a rise to a career-best number 8 in the May world rankings, took the first two games 15/12, 15/7 before Shabana was forced to retire due to a stress fracture in his left heel.

“It became very painful and I had no choice but to withdraw”, said a disappointed Shabana. “I sustained injury in the semi-finals against Mansoor Zaman who took me to full five games on Friday. I wanted to try [to play the final] but in the third game it went beyond my control”.

Darwish was delighted with his win. “I did not know about Amr's’ injury and I concentrated for a quick finish as usual”, he said. “I did not drop a single game throughout the event and my performance was according to my plans.
