Men’s
Open
– Charles Sharpes bt Greg Lobban 11/9, 12/10, 11/2
Proving difficult to predict a winner from this match it had the
potential to be very close. The first game showed why these two
young men have a bright future in the sport and are making their
way up world ranking list. Fast paced squash with high class
retrieving skills meant both players finding it difficult to
force an opening. Charles looked focus and at 4-4 managed to
open up a lead to 7-4 and even though Greg got it back to 9-9
Charles held on to take the first 11/9. The second game saw
players exchange point for point with a tough call on Greg at
just the wrong moment Charles won 12/10. Charles took a
commanding lead in the third to 5-0 up and even with Greg
fighting to get back into the game Charles stayed composed to
close out the game and match 11/2.
Women’s
Open
– Tory Temple-Murray bt Chloe Mesic 11/6, 11/6, 11/1
The
opening game saw Tory settle quickly and use her power to
dominate from the front of the court. Chloe seemed to be
determined to do well and perhaps the pressure put on herself
meant the free flowing movement and shots seen in previous
rounds was not there today. Tory by contrast was in control,
mixing her shots and applying pressure at every possible
opportunity and took the first 11/6. The second games started
closely till Tory took at 5-4 lead and her line and length gave
Chloe no time meaning a winning shot opportunity soon came
about. The third saw Chloe now unaware how to deal with Tory’s
game as anything she tried was answered, Tory took the game and
match 11/1.

Women’s Plate
– Grace Gear bt Jess Dixon 11/2, 11/8, 11/7
|
Top seed Charles Sharpes overcame a
spirited challenge from Joel Makin to take his place in the
BRIGHT Under 23 Final. Charles looked quick and in control early
on, perhaps as Makin had the tougher of the quarter final
matches, Charles finding himself two game up. Joel dug deep to
find some energy and fight taking the third but Charles regained
his focus in the fourth and looked in control he wore his
opponent down to take the game and match.
The Lobban versus Abdalla encounter was
played out at a furious pace from the off with shots to please
the crowd. The first saw Abdallas shot making and relaxed style
win through but it was Lobban who gained the upper hand reducing
his error count and winning the second and third. Youseff came
out fighting in the fourth and battled valiantly but it was Greg
who kept his discipline and finished the stronger to set up a
much anticipated clash with Sharpes in Sundays final.
